Is High Blood Pressure Common?
High blood pressure is an issue for thousands of people in the UK today. Over half of people aged 65 and over have high blood pressure and 1 in 4 middle aged people. High blood pressure is more common in people who:
- Have diabetes
- Have a family history of high blood pressure
- From the Indian sub-continent
- Are from an African-Caribbean origin
- And in people who are overweight, don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables, eat a lot of salt, don’t take enough exercise, drink a lot of alcohol or drink a lot of coffee (or other caffeine-rich drinks).
Thousands of people have high blood pressure and don’t even realize it which can be particularly risky. High blood pressure increases the chance of cardiovascular diseases which can lead to stroke or heart attack. High blood pressure over time can lead to damage to arteries and puts extra strain on the heart. Cardiovascular diseases are the biggest cause of death.
Why Do I have High Blood Pressure?
Everyone has a chance of developing high blood pressure for many different reasons but in over 90% of cases where people have high blood pressure there is no known medical reason. In these kinds of cases the doctor diagnosing the condition will usually recommend “lifestyle changes”. This means that the vast majority of people who have high blood pressure can get very little help from their doctor.
What Can Help Reduce My High Blood Pressure?
The most improvement can come from the person with high blood pressure making changes to how they live but this can sometimes be challenging, especially if those unhealthy ways of living have become habits.
The great news is though that that 90% of people could benefit from the Hypnotension programme.

The Hypnotension programme is a combination of the word hypnotherapy and hypertension (high blood pressure) and is designed to help that 90% of people with high blood pressure due to unknown causes.
The programme allows you to look at the lifestyle factors that may be playing a part in your high blood pressure and looking at ways to reduce or manage those factors so that your blood pressure can be reduced and therefore reduce your risk or heart attack or stroke.
Focused Hypnosis are one of the first hypnotherapy practice in Sheffield to offer this amazing treatment for high blood pressure and it is now available to you.
What Does The Hypnotension Course Look At?
The Hypnotension course covers a range of factors that are known to contribute to blood pressure being too high. These factors include but aren’t limited to:
- Stress
- Diet
- Exercise
- Alcohol
